You can try rinsing it with clean water to see if it will start working again... Mine made it a while longer by doing this. But it finally crapped out anyway. And it's a ***** to replace.

Definitely ur alternator, i have done it multiple times when i used to hit mud going fast i learned my lesson, creep thru the mud untill it gets deep and then punch it, instead of just flying into it. im on my 3rd in a year, luckily ORileys has a lifetime warranty on the one i have,

I had to rebuilt twice the alternator for playing in mud. The first time with clean water and some hits it worked enough to take me home.

Going in it just barely reached front of hood. I don't think its to bad to change remove battery loosen tensioner remove alternater.

Yea it's in a bad spot for when it comes to water/mud.
The bearings in mine went bye bye and it seized up.

I went through 3 last year, I can change them pretty quick now
Not much you can really do to protect it, just have some kind of splash guard and stay out of the really deep stuff
