I trimmed mine in order to get to the axle for service. It was a nice idea by someone at a desk, but when you need to get under the front, the thing just got in the way.

Next time Chrysler, (if there is a next time) you might try a 2 piece with a zipper across the length. You just un-zipper it to do a front lube or a axle lube change, then simply re-zipper it when done.

Ripped mine out. Just sagged no matter how many times I bolted it back up. Held more mud than it repelled to.

this may be another silly question, but I was going to remove mine since it is half broken and sagging, but I wasnt sure about all the rain water and mud that would get up under it and into the starter and such.....apparently it doesn't matter? Thanx

Nope doesn't really, and the electronic stuff (alternators, starters and such) are made to get wet, but not submerged, and in the xj the stock alternator position is pretty low, and it hates mud, I usually don't go over 3/4 of the way up my tires with stock suspension

Bottem line: you can remove it without any issue
