Default moving drivers seat....

I have a really hard time driving my XJ for longer than a few hours. I'm 6'4" and just dont have the 'stretch out' room I have in my car.
Has anyone tried unbolting the drivers seat and moving it back 4-5 inches?
Any thoughts on how much work this would be, or if it's even possible?
Thanks!

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing. I just haven't really checked to see if there are any weird raised parts behind the seat that would make the seat 'sit' funny.

If it sits funny after you stretch it, just use washers to level it out. I'm 6'3" and kinda feel for ya lol

I did the same thing in my jeep a few months ago but i also lowered it as well. Just un bolted it and sawed the mount brackets and moved and marked an inch lower and moved back about inch and a half channel locked it and welded you might have to add a piece of flat strap to get the distance you want and weld.

Not behind but in mine the stock seats have a raised part in the front that the original seat was mounted on so I guess mine is moved back 4 inches or so

I wouldn't do that lol maybe just a couple of tacks but that's it. If you ever want to put different seats in they would be a ***** to get out

Brilliant!! might be a smidge higher too. thanks!

I think I would rather bolt the seat down instead of welding. The fact that I don't weld is a deciding factor. haha.

does it bolt all the way through the floor to the underside of the carriage?
(I ask because the jeep is currently at my friends in RI so I can't just go look.)

Just getting all my ducks in a row.
THANKS EVERYONE!

Yeah drill holes in your floor (be careful not to hit any gas or break lines check where your drilling...) Paint the holes so they don't rust and bolt them down... Like I said before I had to drill through the frame only one side, the right side of drivers side seat

See how the 97+ seat rail is on an angle? That's because there is a ledge that the front bolts on to

Attachment 122251

If you have a 97 + your going to have to weld in a piece or get seats out of an older xj

These are seats from an early 90's xj see how they sit flat? That's what you want... Or any seat that will fit in there for that matter ... I helped my buddy put supra seats in his bj 70 last summer lol!! We got them working and everything!

If you have electric seats make sure you get both ends of the electrical connectors from the scrap yard so you can swap them of you want and have working seats

I have a 97. This is perfect. Thanks!! I'm going to do it, and now I know what I'm getting into.
Thanks for the input! I'll get welding where needed and then get it moved. Gas and break lines beware!! haha!!!!

mine are still bolted in the same mount holes and if you wanted to change seats you just junkyard a set of seat tracks and replace.
