motor tick
Alright I have a 91 Cherokee I rebuilt the motor on. When I got it it had a really bad lifter tick. Tore the motor down and replaced everything but the valves can and crank. It runs great just sounds bad. Any ideas as to what the tick is? Sounds like lifter tick but I'm not sure now. Also the loundness changes at different engine temp and outside temp.

First we all at some point get the lifter tick and it is normal and doesn't hurt anything that I am aware of. Trying to stop this is not a pain but it will always come back. You can try a bottle of MMO first with your next oil change unless yours is pretty fresh.
Second is piston skirt slap some get it some don't, and I have no fix ideas on this one other than a soft re-build, bottom end job....yeah?

I tried engine flush a week or so ago when I changed my oil and it got a little quieter. I have noticed that all jeeps get a bit of a tick. My 98 wrangler has it and all my buddies jeeps have it. This is pretty loud though. Runs like a champ but sounds like a pos. I was going to try an injector cleaner to see it its maybe build up on the valves . They looked clean enough when it was apart.
This was my first rebuild and was told to just check out the cam for excessive wear. I didn't see any flat spots so I figured it was good. Been told by mechanics ( other than the guys before) and was told I'd have more than a tick If the cam was bad.

If your lift height is not what it should be, and you don't want to replace the cam "yet" and the lobes are still "good", a set of adjustable pushrods can make up for the loss of lift. But be aware going this route takes patience and a good caliper or mic to get the length right.

Mine before. Then after new cam, lifters, timing chain and head resurfaced. Second movie is about three hundred miles into. The neighbor kids with 140 thousand on it sounds worse. Don't even stress it.
In the first video that's about how mine sounds. Will it cause any real problems if I leave it? Runs and drives fine otherwise . By the way your jeep looks good from what I could see.

Make Shure you're using a wix or Napa gold oil filter. I don't know if it will cause any real problems. Probably wont. How many miles does the camshaft have on it and did you replace the lifters? Run some STP in your oil. Also did you use any break in oils? Here is the thread of that engine. There might be some helpful info on there for you. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/90-...y-91-a-181505/
Well since you said it is running fine I wouldn't worry about it. A little lifter tick won't hurt anything. If and when it gets bad enough to affect performance you can address it then.
