Default Motor swap from one cherokee to another

My brother is putting a lower mileage straight six from a parts cherokee (same year) into my 91 Cherokee only the distributors are different he is looking for advice on what to do. also the parts cherokee was a standard and mine is an auto I don't know if that makes a difference. Thank you for anybodys input on the subject.

Don't forget to remove the pilot bearing from the crank.

The renix era jeeps didn't have HO until 91; there is your problem. You are going to have to do some modifications to get the engine to work.

So I guess it's the '89 engine (Manual) going into a '91 (Auto)

You need a flexplate from the 1991 for the automatic.

Swap distributors. Use the 1991 intake/exhaust manifold gasket and use the 91 intake and exhaust manifolds.

There is no need for wiring to the computer. He will be using his dizzy, a 91 or later HO flexplate and his intake and exhaust manifolds. Simple.

No modifications for going from a Renix to a H.O as far as ECU's or anything?

Nope. The Ho is not magic. HO = Highly Overrated.
