Wink Motor Search

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4.0/ 6 cylinder and I'm currently looking for a motor. Of course i have a budget and i cannot afford a motor that s very pricey, are there any other motors that will be compatible with my jeep like for instance a GM motor? and if not what other year jeep motor will my 2001 be compatible with.....

You could do a motor out of a 99 with a small amount of work. 2000-2001 will fit. I would just replace the motor with another 4.0.

What is actually wrong with the engine that warrants a replacement?

well it started running hot and I'm not sure why, i even went as far as changing the thermostat, radiator. before my truck started running hot the heat went out, then it went down hill from there. I was told some stop leak for my transmission might have some how gotten in the motor somehow because at one time my transmission was not pulling and i did use it and maybe clogged it up. it still runs there's no knocking but it will run hot. when it does its white billowy smoke

Sounds like a cracked head to me which is common for your year however I'm not an expert there. You may not need an entire engine however I would wait until one of the experts sees this and offers their advice.

U can use any XJ block from 1987-2001, any ZJ block from 1993-1998, and any TJ blocks from 1997-1999.

As for the heads, most easiest swap would to use a TUPY 0331 head from 2002-2004 WJ or 2002-2006 TJ/LJ

There is only one head. It's typically cheaper to replace the head if there is nothing else wrong than it is to replace an entire engine.

I wouldn't risk putting a head on it, especially with how he say how much he have been driving the jeep that's keep getting hot
