check
water pump
fan clutch
radiator cap
fan shroud
thermostat
coolant quality
oil quality
radiator
flush out cooling system

With car off, and keys in hand. Try to spin the fan with a quick turn. It should move but maybe 1/4-1/2". If it moves more than that, it's bad, and that your problem.

thats not a really valid way to determine the problem, the fan clutch in mine is mostly gone but it still cools fine.

"Flushing will be the last resort"........WTF? Try relacing old parts with new, as suggested.

If your only hitting 230 at a stop your fine imho. I usually get about 220ish if im stopped for like 10+ mins and it usually goes away as soon as i start moving again

I know it sounds dumb but i dont see anything that would look to be like my radiator is clogged so why flush if i know theres no need. So i said it would be last on the list. and I am! New water pump and i just put a 195 tstat in and so far it looks like its colder than it is ill get more info tomorrow when i take it to work and back. But im hoping thats it

thats because heat continues even when the motor isnt running. The cooling system doesnt though

Yeah I figured. Just weird it goes from 210 up to like 240 when the motors off

Not weird at all. The coolant is not circulating through the radiator to get cooled. The coolant absorbs the heat. And then has to allow the atmosphere to cool it. Which is why you should never stop an engine while it is overheating, it must be cooled while runnning to prevent further overheating from no circulating coolant.
I have seen engines seize, warp heads, etc after being shut off while overheating.
You need to do as advised and rebuild/replace the cooling system as has been recommended more than once in this thread.
Otherwise I believe you will be posting questions about why your head gasket blew right after you replaced your water pump.
No disrespect intended, but thinking/talking/posting about this is not going to resolve your overheating issue.

What part am I supposed to re-read......the part that says "I'm still overheating and all I have replaced the water pump"? The fan clutch "spin test" is weak at best, $35 buys a new one. The cooling system components are listed in post #32.....one bad one pulls the good ones down. Every owners manual I've read say "if overheating/steaming occurs, turn the motor off". Coolant temp will not rise from 210 to 240 when the motor is turned off, a whacked gauge may indicate so but actual coolant temp will only rise a few degrees and within a couple of minutes og the motor being turned off, coolant starts to cool.

I've also replaced the tstat which has seemed to work but beofre that I had checked both my fans. Put new coolant in. Checked the hoses and most of that good stuff. The only things I haven't done is get a new radiator and flush it. That's about it I think I could be missing a lot of stuff. I'm only 16 why do you think I made a thread asking what could be the problem? Sorry if I was "guessing" too much and not buying everysingle new cooling system componet. I have a job but I also have to buy gas and insurance. I just needed some help on it. Didn't mean to intend to get people mad about it. I just needed ideas before I dumped even more money into this jeep haha so I'm sorry ill make sure to do everything I can before I make a thread
