Default Motor Mounts

Did some searching, only came up with a vendor page from last year. Anyway, I think I might need to upgrade/replace my mounts. Lately my engine has been shaking a bit much. I've noticed it while sitting at a light, then saw it move quite a bit when the hood was popped. Maybe it's always been like this and I've never noticed. But it's a 92, and I'm almost positive they're stock mounts. If I do end up replacing them, where's the best place to buy them? Should I do an OEM swap or get something beefier? This would also be my first time replacing them. Do I just need to support the engine with a stand, or pull it completely?

Thoughts?

Brown Dog makes good motor mounts, as does Ironman 4x4. Both have awesome reviews. I'm getting Brown Dogs as soon as I get the funds. And no, don't need to remove the engine, just support it as you swap em out. I'd avoid getting OEM mounts, unless you want to replace them again in another year

M.O.R.E. makes some high strength motor mounts also.

Yup. I've never heard a bad thing about them either.

Thanks

Is the rubber part of the mount bouncing around in the metal part? Are there gaps between the rubber and metal? Mine have almost a 1/4" gap just sitting there. Needless to say, new mounts are at the top of the list...

Yeah and they're both vendors here. Ironman only offers prothane, which is why I'm going with Brown Dog, cause they offer a mount with rubber bushing. I don't want the vibes of polyurethane mounts. But if you want prothane, either would be a great option. And your mounts could very well be causing the issues you describe. So take a look at em as suggested above and if there are gaps, that could be your issue right there.

BD MM with rubber bushings will be the best. They will not vibe as much as poly will. And IIRC, they are the only ones who offer rubber bushings.

I have Ironman4x4fabs motor mounts and cant say anything bad about them. I noticed a very slight vibe thru the steering wheel when i first put them on, but now its not there.

Easiest way to do the swap is support the oil pan with a jackstand with a piece of wood on top of it, take the tension off the bolts, and do 1 side at a time. You may need to trim the driver side on the motor itself (think its driver side?) for the new mount to fit in all the way.

Yup the big three are ironman, brown dog, and more.

I went with ironmans, the vibes do wear down with time for those curious, and also remember that the ironman mounts offer a 1/4" (pretty sure it's 1/4" offhand) motor lift that help with driveline angles, pretty sure they are the reason I'm at 3" of lift with no vibes.

All seem to be good options, I chose ironman out of those three when I was reasearching and deciding, read up and see what fits your needs best.

Thanks for the great responses, guys! I'll check/take a picture of my mounts tomorrow and report back to you guys.

Glad to know the top 3 brands too!

I got the Iron Man mounts to. They are beefy and can be rebuilt but I doubt I'll ever need to.
I think just about any upgrade mount is worth the money over the stock rubber ones that break all the time.

I went Brown Dog with rubber bushings. Great product! It was my first time changing them. Brown Dog has a help line you can call on the weekend. Didn't think I'd need to, but turns out, I called it a couple of times and needed some hints. Despite what you may have heard, no trimming needed on their mounts if you order the XJ version. Install was pretty easy. I ended up needing to remove the engine-side brackets to install the mounts onto first, THEN putting back onto the engine block. I had to lift my engine 1.5" to put it back on. Yeah, my engine mounts were that far gone!

I think Brown Dog is a vendor on here, too.
