More comfortable ride?
Well the title says it. I have a factory 2000 xj and I think it could have a softer ride. What are some ideas other than getting a volvo or cadillac.
I do not go offroad very often and I drive it long distances (500+ miles at a time).
So what to do?
any and all input is great.
shicks, springs, seats, swaybars, and so on...

Anybody?
Also I added sound deadener to the doors, rear hatch and floor. Not a huge difference, until you drive in the rain.

Sorry bro, but you drive a truck. You cant drive a work horse and expect it to be a pony. You need to get OME if you want a good ride. other than that. Dont waste your money.

So There are no jy parts that "bolt-up". I guess people dont buy cherokees for comfort, but still I figured mabey better coil designs, or fancy leafspring designs.
Oh well

assuming its 100% stock buy the use of factory... you could put a shackle relocation (if the shackle angle is bad, Ive seen it bad on a stock XJ) on the back and a 1" spacer up front, with a combination of nice shocks. I don't mean cheap new ones, NICE ones, bilsteins, fox ect. but thats all I can really think of as far as stock.

I used a set of michelins and, they were aweful. I run yolkahama geolander at/s 215/ 75/r15, because they offer great ride and a very agressive tread pattern. I run them at 45psi I know that lowering the presure will cause a smoother ride but, The higher pressure makes the sidewall flex less.

I think this answers the thread considering OEM pressure is 33 PSI for the same tire size.[/QUOTE]
would run them lower, but they dont ride good at higher speeds at lower than 40psi. These tires require 50psi as they are more of a heavy duty tire.

A "heavy duty" tire..... with high PSI.... and less sidewall flex... there's your answer for the harsh ride. I don't think that any amount of suspension mods are going to offset the fact you are riding on "rocks" for tires. They will transmit every road irregularity to your suspension.

That said, I had wondered if no leafspring isolator pads would cause a ride issue. I know they will cause scraping sounds but what about transmitting a rougher ride?
So no suspension ideas... How about seating or other interior "upgrades"? I know of the zj seat swap, but do any other seats fit and or bolt onto the seat brackets. Like say the the newer jeeps (grands, libertys, or so on)

A good example, I had a 4.5 on 31 Firestone Destination M/T's and Rough Country 2.2 shocks and wow was that stiff. I swapped the 31's for 32 KM2's running at 33 PSI and the ride was much nicer and smoother. Swapped the shocks out for a set of BDS hydros shock and I cannot complain. The wife is happy and it rides very nice. I can take long road trips and get out the Jeep feeling like I've been sitting in a cush ride.
