I use the Mopar filter on my 2000 XJ because I figure that when it rolled down the assembly line, a Mopar PN5281090 filter was installed at the factory. I just rolled over 180k miles, and it still runs strong. I'm not saying that the Mopar filter is better or worse than any other, just that using an Original Equipment part on your ride is always a "safe" bet. And now them being available at Wally world for cheap... that's a big plus!

Quick oil filter education. The way to tell if the oil filter is a quality filter, look inside of it and see if it has a spring in the bottom. That's a bypass spring, so if the filter gets plugged, it causes the oil to bypass the filter and burn up the engine.

That is the anti drainback valve, it keeps oil in the filter to help take less time for oil pressure to build when the engine is first started. The filter bypass in built into the oil filter adaptor, not the filter. The bypass allows oil to keep flowing through the engine even if the filter is clogged. I would rather have unfiltered oil lubing my engine than no oil at all.

Just did a little research on those Frams and I was shocked...I've been using them for more than 20 years and I've never had a problem and thought they were just fine. Not any more. I'll never buy a Fram again. Off to NAPA tomorrow to get a decent filter. Pays to look into these things.

In most applications people get by with them and are oblivious to the quality of the filters.
But, on most of our Jeeps the oil filter is mounted in such a way that a good anti-drainback valve is critical. Without it, we experience "dry starts" every time we turn the key.
Wix or Napa Gold are easy to find and are high quality. No sense using the OCODs. That's Orange cans Of Death.

Remember, you have standard filters and oversized filters for several different brands.(eg NAPA reg filter is the Gold 1085 but the bigger oversized filter is the gold 1515). I do not remember the numbers for the other brands. the are not to hard to come by.

Here's a couple you may find interesting:
and
I didn't know the end caps were all paper and the sealing they use is garbage. After seeing that first one it got me to thinking...if someone got a filter with that degree of fault, how many go through production with that bad or worse problems?
Got me a NAPA Gold...I wanted to get a K&N but they don't stock it (at least not up here), which is weird because they have quite a wide selection of K&N products.

No more Fram filters for me, thanks for the proof! And I was wrong about there not being a pressure valve inside the filters when in fact some filters do have a pressure valve inside.
