Sadly the majority off the oil filters that are out there all produced by the same company, Champion Laboratories, although to varying manufacturers specs!

Not all vehicles have a bypass built into the housing, that's why they require a full flow oil filter, the spring in the bottom of the filter. I believe you are talking about the rubber disk @ the bottom of the filter, and you are correct.

I just grab a motorcraft (ford) FL-1 at walmart...they fit perfect and are larger...$4 cant beat it.
