I called the dealer to confirm the $3000 price tag. I told them I wanted a quote on a new heater core. They never even called me back. That's how much business they are doing. They can't be bothered with a $3000 job. It's a gold mine over there since basically no one knows how to fix cars anymore. People where I live here pay a mechanic $400 for a new headlight bulb and think they got a good deal (A co-worker told this to me on Friday, and was so happy he bypassed his BMW dealer who quoted him $1800) And yes, this is why my mechanic sends his kids to the best schools in the state along side kids of bankers and lawyers.

give us the dealers number so we can confirm. 400 for a head light? why do you even post on here? if the numbers are legit I'm moving to your city and opening a shop.

If he actually paid that he is almost as dumb as you.
Either that is a complete lie or your "friend" got absolutely hosed.
A heater core at the dealer is expensive as hell but still not $3,000.
Mopar heater cores are about $450 (there is no way they are worth more than 4 times what a good aftermarket one sells for but that's what Chrysler/Jeep/Fiat charges for them) and figure about $100/hr. for dealer labor, so $1,000-1,300 would be about right for this job at a dealer, which is still a complete rip-off in my opinion but $3,000 is highway robbery.

He must live in the village where they send all the 'special' people. Oh and the snippet about him sending his kids to the 'best schools'.... You forgot IT admins
I have a call into my friend as well. I want to verify the shop hours he was billed.
I am also going to call the dealer again. Maybe tomorrow they will take my call.
