Hey folks - I'm sad to admit I know enough about my car to change the tires and the oil, and that's about it. I'd noticed some fluid/oil drips, and at the most recent oil change I figured out why - apparently bolt #4 in whatever this part is decided to take a walk. Everything underneath is soaked and I"m hoping the fluid loss is through the hole - I need to replace the bolt and clean everything up and go from there. Problem is - I can't find what this thing is called, let alone what sized bolts are to go in it! HELP!

I know nothing about the manual trannies. However is that a tranny mount?

For the bolt size, I wager the adjacent bolt is same size, remove it to take to hardware store for replacement. I imagine it is a high grade bolt. Beware, the XJ does of a mix of metric and SAE bolts, and some sizes are very close. If the bolt head has a mark such as 8.8, or 10.8, then it is metric, those are metric grade marks, replace with same. If bolt has three or six radial lines o the head, then those are SAE grade marks.

Of course defill with oil before attempting to run the jeep! If driven drained, it may be full of wear bits, so a second drain and fill after it is warmed up will be prudent to do. Just drive enough to warm it up. If the next drain shows signs of metal in the oil, then fill and drain again as needed to remove all the wear bits.

Golly that sucks, sorry it happened.

Good Luck

Parts diagram just says "bolt", qty 4. Pull one of the others and hit the store to match. None of those bolts hold back oil, so your leak is elsewhere.

Check the fluids in the trans and transfer case to see if either is low. Fair warning if you decide to change the fluids - make sure you can remove the fill plug before draining. Also, ignore the owners manual and do NOT use generic GL rated gear oil in the trans as it's not friendly to the brass synchros. Penzoil synchromesh, Redline MTL, or synthetic 5w-30 motor oil work well.
