Hey guys so i found some rust on my floor a few days ago and i cleared it out with some evaporust and a wire wheels and there’s a couple holes most are pretty small but one is fairly good size. It’s rusting from the inside out because of a sunroof one of the POs installed that is leaking and then it sat outside for six months before i bought it. So my question is, if i clear it out to all good metal could i just fill it with mig weld and then sand it down and then spray it with some self etching primer? Will that withstand future rust? i would prime the underneath too so it’s all sealed. I put my pinky in the pictures for size reference.

When you try to "fill" that in with mig weld, it will more than likely burn through and get bigger. I would cut out the bad and put new sheet metal in. Then prime and paint with some black semi-gloss. Fix your leak, or it will come right back. I shudder at the thought of a sunroof on an XJ.

I just read this. Thinking this would be the way to go.
