Not right away. Do a compression test and see what you get for readings.

Compression spec for the 4.0 is 120-150 psi, with no more than a 30 psi variation between cylinders.

Has this engine ever been OVERHEATED? Overheats can lead to head and head gasket problems.

But you could also have a buildup of condensation in the crankcase because of short trips and not frequent enough oil change intervals.

How old is this oil and is this XJ used primarily for short trips? Longer trips can burn off any existing condensation.

Seen this plenty of times. If you arent loosing any coolant and its running fine this is probably your cause.

+1. A compression test is the best way to know for sure. No sense in second-guessing the cause when you can easily determine it via process of elimination.

x2... get it to someone who can do the test. It might cost you some labor but.... at leat you can drive it there. Don't delay this before you find it not driveable.

^^ This. Happens a lot especially in the winter time. Not too much of a concern unless you are loosing coolant as well.
