I filled up with 19.7 gallons once You really just have to drive until you NEED gas. Everyone probably has some variation in their readings.

Couple of gallons maybe, but don't try to find out.
The fuel pump is cooled by gasoline.
Running it low or out isn't a good thing. It's not worth it. Not only do you put your fuel pump at risk, you can pick up sediment from the bottom of the tank that can do things like clog injectors, etc.
I try to fuel up mine between 1/8 and 1/4 so I don't get stuck in the sticks somewhere with no gas station.

I installed a new pump/filter/checkvalve assembly a couple of months ago. The old one suffered from the leaking check valve and the fuel gauge was very unreliable.
With the new unit fitted, my reserve fuel light comes on with approx 3 gallons left in the tank (i.e. after I used approx 17 gallons)
So the 3 gallons will get me on average 50 miles. Unless I have my wife with me, who gets very nervous when the reserve light comes on and demands an immediate refuel stop.

If I recall, the manuals say about 3 gallons remain when the fuel light comes on.
+1 on not running low on fuel all the time. Fuel pump needs to be submerged in fuel to cool. I don't worry about running out in my 81 Ford since it's got a mechanical pump only, but those newfangled electronics are just soooo picky....lol.

mine comes on when it feels like it. somedays right before the stumbles start others I could go another 50 miles. just depends how the lite is feeling on that particular day.
