in the middle of drum brake cylinder replacement

Default in the middle of drum brake cylinder replacement

Took the old leaky cylinder off and it had what seemed to be an O ring/gasket on there. The new part from NAPA did not come with one. I called the NAPA guy and he wasn't too helpful. Is there supposed to be an O ring where it bolts to the backing plate?

No, it's a compression fitting.

I see a little silicone on the sometimes. Probably to keep crud out. But there is nothing needed to seal it to the backing plate.

Do I need to dope the bleeder nipple or brake line threads? I was getting some small leaking when bleeding and it looks like it's coming from either place.
