The muffler that was on there from midas is a......car muffler. It's designed to run in one direction. They "made it work" cuz apparently they didn't have the right muffler in stock when I was there. Why they put an extension after the muffler and shoved the tailpipe backwards and out of position is beyond me. The performance muffler I got now can be run in either direction.

Like I said, I'm not gonna go in and make a scene. That's not the kind of person I am and I don't want to cause any harm to their business since he's a family friend. A simple letter for a refund and an apology will do it for me and hopefully everything will be settled afterwards. If they choose not to fix their mistake then i'll cut my losses and they will lose a couple customers since I will spread the word to my family.

I found the invoice. I paid $189 for the muffler job at midas and only paid $89 at monroe. Monroe did not charge me labor.

$189.00 ???!!!

Yeah, you got charged for labor. The muffler sure didn't cost that much. Call 'em and ask 'em how much a new one would be carry-out.

Their cost is probably about $25.00

They really did you some favors.

Midas-Monore-Cole there all the same when it comes to muffler work. Everything connected to the exaust system is bad and inoperatable when THEY check the system. I had Cole replace a muffler and leave the original hanger off the old muffer in place. After a year the Cat loosened up at the connection and broke. I took the vehicle back and showed them the where the muffler was not connected. They wanted to replace the Cat for $225 with 10% off. (Bull Cookies) I called the district manager to complain and told them It was their fault the Cat was broken. They looked at it again and welded in a new flange pipe. Did not offer this the first time I talked to them.

Monore- had warranty on brakes and when they went low, took it back and they told me the drums were worn. 1 was .010 under and 1 was .010 over spec. Would cost $240 for new drums. I told them to replace brakes under warranty and the adjuster would take care of the .010 difference. Did not let them gouge me for new drums. Went to autoparts next month and picked up drums for $40 each.

Had a friend who worked as a manager for Monroe @6 mths. Could not take it after that long. They were required to find a minimum of $200 on each vehicle or were written up.

midas monkeys

depending on the shop you go to they might have some good guys in there. i went in to get an irok mounted off a wheel. they had 2 guys on the tire machine in the corner of the shop trying to get it off, well one kid was turning it and the other lifting on the tire, the tread grabbed his shirt and sucked him into the wall

i was lolling my pants off.

then they tried to get it off with prybars on the ground.

failed (duh)

then one guy who knew what he was doing came over and popped it right off

Maybe i mentioned it or not but the $189 also included inspection, which was the reason I was there.

If you had seen the job they did on the muffler, you would have laughed. The added a 8" or so extension at the rear of the muffler that pushed back the tailpipe and the axle would've hit it. TERRIBLE job. Monro fixed it and it's all "bolt on" and looks like it did stock now. If there's a problem I can fix it myself cuz nothing is "welded with putty" anymore.

How much is an inspection by itself?

And no, you didn't mention that before.

Inspection was $89. The rest was the exhaust fix and labor for modding the tailpipe so it fit between my shackle and gas tank. It took em an hour and 1/2 to do just the muffler. They said cuz it was a modified vehicle (lift and sye) but there's nothing to be modded on the exhaust. It stays in the stock position except the tailpipe which needed bent towards the tire so it would fit. ( i have 2" shackles)

Well, thats more reasonable. They just built labor into the price.

It would have been a lot quicker if they hadn't screwed it up and then spent time trying to "fix" it.

Cheaper on you too, since you are now into a muffler twice.

Idjits.

id say that guy is not much of a family friend, my dad has his own shop and if a friend brings something in either he does it or he checks it after its done to make sure everything is good. i would have taken my buddy at the other shop and taken him back there and let him show them where they messed up and made them fix it for free and then called the better business bureau i wouldnt have been so nice, dont act like an idiot but let them know that you aint gonna be taken advantage of. they think that you aint gonna say nothing and just take it in the rear which you basically did and they just go on to the next guy. he could deny your claim too since you took it to another shop and say that they did all the damage

Like I said above, the family friend was not in at that time. A temporary manager was there. If dave was there i'm sure he would take care of it. He would always work on my rigs when he was there. I am bringing this up to him next week and I'm not worried cuz i know he'll fix everything.

The terms quality and customer service are long gone in this day and age. It's more like "When do I get paid"
