I had Monro fix it. A guy from 4wdhardware's forum works there and he does GREAT work. He also found that they pushed the tail pipe section after the muffler too far back and the bend that clears the axle wasn't where it was supposed to be so the axle would hit it when flexing. They used putty to attach the muffler to the tailpipe and cat along with clamps so it took alot of abuse to get the muffler off for a replacement.
I'm gonna write a letter to this midas shop, with pictures included and demand my money back. I don't want to go in there in front of people and explain it. My dad's good friend Dave owns the shop and he serviced me since i was 16 and never charged labor. They got some new guys there that aren't up to date yet so hopefully this letter will tell Dave to keep an eye on their work. I would hate for Dave to lose business in an economy like this.

Sounds like you are prepared to handle this like a responsible consumer. I learned a long time ago that screaming and cussing only gets you thrown out of the shop with no results.

That's the weird part of this whole thing. When i went in last year to get the inspection done, a woman was at the counter arguing with the temporary manager (dave was out) about how they locked the keys in her car as they pulled it out of the bay and parked it. She was PIS$ED! She look at the two customers waiting (me and another dude) and told us we better go elsewhere blah blah blah. She leaves and then they come out saying my muffler didn't pass and the rest of the story was already told. Maybe I should have listened to her

If he has a stock muff than you can't do that & it depends on which Flow you have some aftermarkets are one way also. If the guy is a family friend then he should be cool about it I would think. But with all the dealerships closing why does he still have retards working in his shop?

Some mufflers do thier job no matter which way they are mounted.
BUT is the inlet is offset amd outlet ISNT, it can screw up everything. Tailpipe and muffler can contact portions of the undercarriage and cause a big headache.

I never liked Midas, my Dad had a client who ran the one near us and he would always take his car there and they would always tell him the rear brake cylinders were leaking everytime. Friend at work took his old 70s chevy to one and they said the same thing to him, he asked if he could go out and take a look and they said yes. He gets out there and they had poured brand new clean fluid on the brakes to try and tell him it was leaking, when the fluid in the reseviour for the brakes was not the clean looking. They just looked at him with the look on their face that they knew he caught them.
