Default Micro rust spots

Had the xj for about a month now, and its starting to get cold here in MI and i would like to get rid of the minuscule spots.
One is on the corner of the hood,
Another is the piece of metal that sticks out from the roof panel,
and the last is a tiny bit in the slight fold of the metal about a foot over the rear wheel.

Was thinking maybe use a small and thin dremel bit and grind it out.

What are your suggestions?

Can we trade?

If they're as small as you say, then I don't see any reason a Dremel shouldn't be able to grind them out and you just use some touchup paint.

Go for it.

Dremel the rust.

Then try Rust Bullet.
It might be legit, it might be crap.

Paint right over the RB.

Better than letting it stay.

Your jeep has miniscule rust spots? That's cute. LOL

Sand it lightly if it isn't too bad and get some touch-up paint. You can find the paint color code on your door.

Rust Bullet and other rust encapsulation products are designed for more widespread areas, and probably wouldn't be worth investing in for a few tiny little spots...but again, pictures would help us there.

Nice. I gotta get me a garage until I can weld

Yeah, mostly fixed. Rear quarter is permanent, unless I get a bumper, and the rocker I just did with some scrap and Bondo to keep the crud out. 2x6 replacement is the plan for next year.

I have yet to reattach the flares on that side lol. And before you mention it those are the old springs, now lying in a pile behind the shed.

Oh, so you did the cut and fold? Interestingly enough, my drivers side is mint:

Unfortunately the cut and fold isn't really an option for me, considering I'm installing BW flats. I'd have to modify the flare to support it. Now, I think it'd be quite awesome if I had 4 front pieces, and could do the cut and fold that way, but that would be extra money and I don't think BW sells individual flares...

So for now, I'm going to patch the quarter panel and continue to use my rear bumper caps until I get a new rear bumper, in which case I'll probably go with a JCR w/ integrated armor.

But anywho, sorry for the threadjack!

This one is strange, Odd to have a spot like that in a body line crease. Almost leads me to think that it may have been repainted at one time or there was a flex issue that cracked the paint which lead to the rust. If repainted at one time you'll notice over spray (rough paint) in the jambs and or sharp tape lines also look at trim edges for signs of poor masking jobs. You can also compare the quality of the finish to other parts of the body and see if there are differences in shine, color tint and texture. To fix that little guy the correct way would be sand out, skim coat with poly putty, rpime and paint but for cheap dremel it to where the paint stops peeling, prime and fill in with touch up paint.

That one just plain nasty and will take much more work. Grind, fill, prime, and paint the whole roof. Touch up on that big of a spot will look like hell.

Attachment 216532
Do the same as the first clean it up with the dremel, prime it, and touch up.

Ok lets see if I can pick this apart. ( I was an Autobody Teck for 15 yrs.) See Red replies above. I would say the roof and the hood are original paint for sure but the sides you just never know. Look like it had the windshield replaced as well from the old trim lines in the picture. The one on the drip rail will be tough to keep at bay. It's a pinch weld area and likely the rust is under the seam sealer up there and it's next to impossible to get it all cleaned up. That spot will most likely come back time after time.

I think paint chips like that are pretty normal. There are a few tiny spots on my XJ too. The one on the body line crease--that looks like it may have resulted from side trim removal. The glue used on them is a biotch.

The roof spot looks a bit rough. I would take care of that ASAP. Another common area for rust has been under the windshield. Not fun!

It isnt from trim removal. Did someone key it a while back and it rusted?

Thanks for the advice guys! Hopefully it all turns out.
