Default The Mess.

Well recently bought a 1995 XJ. Went to a spot just outside of town to test the 4wd and motor mount bolt broke. This lead to the distributor being crushed along with some other things.
The Problem now is the shaft of the distributor is stuck in the engine. The case is out the only thing is the shaft. I turn it by hand and it turns then gets stuck. Pulling up doesn't help either, it turns up and gets stuck. Any solutions?
I thought about dropping the oil pan and pull the oil pump off any chance it would fall out? Thanks for any help.

Ill check out those mounts.

I did remove the hold down bolt and that part popped out, leaving the shaft still in. I cant see the gear teeth just a washer on top of the gear that I believe is the problem. Ill take pics when the engine is out.

You have the housing in your hand and the distributor shaft is stuck in the engine? If the shaft is jammed on the cam gear turning the shaft counter clock wise should force it to back out. Make sure the motor in on #1 TDC before you do anything else tho....

It only turns maybe a 1/4 turn then you feel it get bound up on something. Yes the housing in in one hand and the shaft is stuck in. Now when bump the engine the shaft turns as it should. Ill find tdc the old way stick some rubber hose in #1 and confirm on the balancer.

Sounds to me like you've buggered up the gears on the cam and/or distributor shaft. If that's the case you're in for a lot of work. Time to rebuild.
