not only are our jeeps good at throwin mud! so are we!! we love jeep chicks!!! so disregard the rudeness...
if descriptions a a challenge, do your best to find a pic, or post your own that will help identify issue. use paint or photoshop to draw arrows or circles or whatever to indicate your intentions... glad to see we got a few productive answers, though!!

i could careless if i seem like a giant douche, ive been to several peoples house to fix their cars.... she is asking us whether she should leave the halfass work she did and act like she didnt know what happened or but it back together and lie to her friend about what she did or know.... seems like a douche-move to me. ive dealt with stuff like that before and you go to a *friends* house to look at their vehicle thinking ooooo its a simple bushing or something then you get over there and you can tell something was messed with and you would rather know what they tried so you can check that as well and all..... so i dont care how you all see me. but i know how i see this girl from across the pond. sounds like a douche. maybe she could be a real friend and just admit to her friend that she screwed up and is unsure as to what/how to fix the issue/s. and then the next post was PHEW he cancelled and didnt show up..... WOW how can anyone not see the douche-likeness here???

It's been a while since I've been on here. What's up with the "dissing the noobs" thing? Not one but two different guys??? At least she has the stones to attempt the repair herself and ask for help when she felt the need for it. Professional mechanics seem to be universally undependable, at least some anyway, especially when it's a friend trading work. The hotter set up is to get a manual and learn to do the job yourself with the help of the kind folks on forums like these.
It really gets by blood boiling to see jerks dissing others for their lack of knowledge when they could be helping.

slo_camaro, This isnt gl4x4... This is the "nice forum"
But yes, should of left it alone. Or, if youre going to post on a forum looking for help at least try to put together a clear and concise paragraph on what the problem is. Not "this thing" "that thing" "but its smokey" etc...
"Good in, Good out"
Doesnt help that we dont have diesel cherokees here...

He has been working around other jobs so its been off the road now for around 3 weeks. I got a bit frustrated at being trapped and i have horses so its been tough, and i just waded in at the deep end and tried to finalise the repairs myself just so i can get out of this situation where i feel dead isolated and confined.
well I running when it was towed and put into gear...and it had some oomph which was fun! but it wonuld not start itself. The ticking was going great but it would not just do that final phase into running state. Gosh this is hard! So anyway it was the filter thing so its on a bracket and its got the metal top and then filter and a bowl with connectectors like electrical..and its got deisel in it. I took the bottom wire things off then the black pipes one says in and then i kept them upright so not to drip deisel. I took it in and cleaned the plastic bowl and dried it then did the deisel put the new round black washer thing seal i think. Then i struggled to remove the old filter from the metal top. I used pliers to hold and it came off. Put new one on and then filled the little bowl nd joined it all up and went to put it on the jeep. So i put it all together how it was and i went to try start it and there was more life and it really tried and it nearly went and i could hardly see for the grey smokey stuff. So i ran inside. I waited a bit, and then just tried again and it wants to start, and the smokey thing is gone, but it just keeps trying, i have to turn the key off cos i dont want to do any more damage! The mechanic friend (whom i have not told about my repair job attempt) said he will be here tonight to do the filter as it gets done in situ and i will not be able to safely remove filter - i have just gone along with him saying ok, ok see u l8r.
Do I take it off really quick and put all old stuff back and pretend that i know nothing? and just kick myself for wasting an entire day just to get out and go shopping! Or have i buggered it completely? or have i got to do some techie things only car and jeep folk and mechanics know about?
Can anyone help....Be blunt and honest -if i am in the Manure just say it, I have about 2 hours to resolve or admit it! obviously i dont want to admit defeat for reasons of pride etc.. thanks so much for any help at all.

Hi and thank you for all your help and support even to the not so kind, it was rather amusing to see how true it really is that" it takes all sorts."
There was a very pressing incident that required my immediate escape from the place the jeep was, so I had to ring my friend back and say as soon as he could come over i would be grateful. There was only a 24 hr wait so i never tried the car again as i didnt want to run down the battery. When he arrived I made him some tea and actually said that i had removed the housing and changed the filter and i told him about the smoke....(sorry to the unamused). He checked the work I had done and asked me about washers and had i filled the bowl with deisel. He said he was quite impressed as the smoke was merely the old oil that was on the engine from the core plug job etc. He also said that some deisel in the engine may be a good idea! Also that the battery might be a bit low if its sat for that length of time idle. He topped up the fuel, checked i had done the housing and fuel filter securely and jump started it with his van. So it went like a dream. I went out for a run and noticed that it was really pulling away when i hit the gas and thought my gosh this is unusual, so i may have been riding round for ages in a vehicle running on less than normal efficiency etc. Great news all round as its time to shift the horses for the winter. Thats three trips up and down a 3 mile country lane that feels vertical when you have to stop as its all uphill.
Thanks again and like I said I really dont mind attitude and sillies, I dont get bothered and i wont offend, there is no need as a damn fine job is being done by themselves. Thanks to everyone.

If you wish to use my full title then indeed feel free to. I might like a small show of basic skills in social conduct and would request that you refrain to being rude in grammar and tone.
Never the less thank you for taking time to read the issues I had.
Lady Dee
This is specific to the members who used language and tone that was not actually called for as this is not a low life gathering for hooligans, it is a site with excellent knowledgable and helpful people to whom Iam grateful. I will though not trouble you again and sorry that you found my lack of technical knowledge and jargon difficult to deal with. Thank you to those who guessed easily what i was on about. Really easy i think if you know your way round engine. Why did you not think of, priming the darn thing! sILLY YOU
