Default matching vin with ecm

so my comouter is shot and i need to replace it......how do i match the numbers?

up to 96 you do not have to program it with teh VIN. 97+ will set a CEL but it will be driveable, take it to the jeep dealer and they will hook it up to flash the computer.

so no specific computer (as far as numbers go) to get? just pull it up through auto parts store?

just go to a junk yard and pull a PCM from any 91-95 with a 4.0 and go

Unless you want to pay like 300 bucks, dont go to a parts store. Go to a junkyard and have them pull it, or pull it yourself. I would be extremely surprised if it was over 100 pulled.

car-part.com is your friend here. In NC they avg. $75 pulled.

so i tried 3 different pcm from 91 92 and 95 and still nothing......and there were no more jeeps to pull from around here

IIRC the model numbers need to match. Would be in the form P12345-567XX. The last 2 letters don't need to match.
