map sensor (maf code?)
i have a 98 limited cherokee I6 auto and im getting a maf code? it has no maf i her its a map code really and i have a generic scan tool? it chugs and backfires when this occurs anyone else experiencing this problem?

Try a different code reader or scan tool. And post the EXACT code you are seeing.
If it is a MAP code, that sensor can be tested with a meter and a manual. Also be sure that the vacuum line leading to the map sensor is pulling good vacuum.

Not really.
It could be intermittently losing fuel pressure due to a failing fuel system, injector, regulator, pump, etc.
It could also be a coil going bad.
Unless you've tested the MAP sensor and confirmed, it could still be other things.
