Manuals & Guides
I figure this fits best in OEM Tech.
Can anybody who's used it a lot comment on the Haynes manual for the XJ? It's omitting a lot of information for 97+ Jeeps, even though the front says it's for the full production run. Like this:
"Note, 1997+ Cherokees do not have an inline fuel filter"
"All inline-six engines have a pressurized cooling system" <---?????
To be honest I'm not sure if I should put much faith into the book since I have a '99... funny enough the composite drawing of an XJ on the front looks like it has the I6 with open cooling system Is there a better book out there (aside from the FSM of course) or are gaffes such as that pretty infrequent? I know that not much changed during the XJ's production, but if not for this site I could see someone getting pretty confused with the misinformation in there lol.

I use the haynes manuals alot. They cram in alot of information that doesn't really pertain to older XJ's and sometimes the other way around. I've noticed with some stuff like where it talks about the NSS it won't specify where stuff is located which i hate.
I do use and compare item locations and stuff in the manual while i'm working on my XJ.

IIRC, paid like $75 for a set of Factory Service Manuals (1000+ pages) on ebay......worth every penny. Figure I can get my money back if/when the time comes. Gotta factory owners manual as well, $15 on ebay.

Factory Service Manuals are superior to Haynes and Chiltons in every possible way.
And they are written for your exact year, unlike the others which seem like they are written for the Model T to the 2001 XJ.
Here is a link to a place that sells licensed, legal digital FSMs for $7.95 (most years).

As djb mentioned, keep an eye on ebay as FSMs come up there once in a while, hit and miss.
