So my '87 project MJ has manual windows. My brother cranked them down all the way and now they wont crank back up. I take it I need to replace the track or whatever the term may be? Ive done regulators for electric windows in Hondas and a cpl chevys and my BMW, but never manual windows. What parts do I need and any links to DIYs would be great!

Take the door panel off. There is a thing that kinda looks like a piece of a scissor jack. Sometimes that cracks or breaks. It might not be the track. There are also two half gears that mesh together. There might be an issue there as well. If you have dealt with electric windows, manual ones can be easier.

 

So it might be salvagable as is? Or do I need to replace the until if its not a track issue

 

Take the door panel off and look, sorry, but that is the only way you will know for sure what is going on. Then if you can't figure it out take some photos that show the linkage and post them with your question.

 

If the crank works, but all you hear/feel is a grinding noise, the regulator is shot and must be replaced.

It's no fun.
