Hi all - ran into a bit of an issue today. Here are the details:
95 cherokee 2.5L RWD manual transmission
I was removing my driveshaft today and when I pulled out the slip yoke, what I can only guess is transmission lubricant started leaking out quite quickly. This was a bit unexpected, as I hadn't run across mention of this in how-to's I've read. About 2 pints came out in all.
I decided just to put her back together and try to put the captured fluid back in until I could properly flush and change it. However, when I located andremoved what I believe to be the fill plug (AX-5 transmission) the fluid was still up to or just above the bottom of the fill hole - fluid slowly dribbled out after removing the plug even though 2 pints already came out via the yoke. Attempts to refill via this plug were futile, as the fluid just ran back out.
I'm pretty sure, but not positive of the fill plug location - it was a torx bolt labeled "do not remove" (which, naturally, I removed) located on the drivers side about parallel with the drain plug. Does that sound correct?
Could the transmission lubricant have been overfilled, causing this, or does this point to other issues? The lubricant didn't look too pretty - it was a milky grey-brown and looked quite dirty.
Thanks for any feedback / suggestions.

Update: just noted some info that indicates the fill plug is actually on the passengers side - though it looks to be in roughly the same spot as the plug I removed. Haynes manual may have been wrong!

Still curious about the amount of lube I saw come out when I pulled the driveshaft, but at least I know where to fill it from now.
