Default making xj seats fold forward

Hi I have a 94 2-door Cherokee Sport and the front seats fold forward to access the back seat. My drivers seat has seen better days at 207k. I always liked the Laredo's interior better than the Sport

Any ways I pulled the seats from an early 90s Laredo, but it was a 4-door. The interior is coming out of mine to weld new floor pans and rockers this summer. I figured the mechinism that folds can be moved to this new seat. If not I have to strip both seats and move the fabric and cusions to the old frames. that is a lot of work though...

The made 2-door Laredos but they are stupidly rare so I gave up on finding door panels. But the seats should be easy to interchange. Has anyone attempted this?

The frame is what folds, and there is a latch involved. You will have to move the foam and upholstery.

I guess it all depends on how bad you want folding seats.

They are necessity for anyone minus a child getting into the back seat. I was going to purchase a second folding drivers seat and tear into both laredo and sport to see the dif in the latches (incase I break something lol) if the latch bolts right one that would be sweet

Super easy to do. I swapped in leathers out of s wj into my 96 2 door just open the upholstery until you can get the bracket and swap it over. There are a ton of write ups but it's pretty self explanatory when once you can see the bracket

IIRC, the ZJ and WJ seats should bolt to your existing. Basically, you remove the old seat from the bracket, and install the new seat on the bracket.

Seat replacement is a problem with the 2 doors. I have been searching for seats too. Someone posted some cool pics of Acura RSX seats installed. Probably any 2 door honda product of that era could work with a bit of mod. But also look for 2 door Neon and 2 door Sebring coupe seats. Mounting method seems similar enough. And there might be enough Mopar think-alike that it might be easy.

I already bought the seats from a 4door xj... i have seen a few WJ seats that have been modified to fold... And seats that fold from Hondas and other 2door Chryslers are a good idea.

My question is are there any write ups for making a 4door xj seat fold like a 2door, because i already have all the parts, and it should be the easiest to keep looking stock (i like mods, but not mods that scream "im not factory") i do not want to waste what i have as my seats are in near perfect shape

Changing the material only take a screw driver and pair of pliers .

So let me first state that this question is rather embarrassing, since I consider myself a “car guy” or “mechanic”….

But how exactly does the front seat of an 89 XJ 2 door foldforward??? Which lever does what? Mine are all kinda stuck.

I’ve tried, briefly, and can’t seem to make it work. Ifigured I would ask the question before pulling the seats out just to figureout this simple but bothersome problem…

Well the lever is up high... I ended up skinning my seats and placing new covers from the 4-door on the old 2-door frame. Seems pulling the lever moves a cable similar to a hood release. It pulls a hook bottom middle of seat back in the rear, then the seat pivots. This changed in 95 when they changed the seat base and utilized grand Cherokee framework. They also moved the finger latch down near the bottom of the seat back, because it allowed a simpler bolt on hinge for the seat. You get 4-door seats and bolt on the pivot seat, much easier mod. I wish i had photos but my 94 rotted at the leaf and im parting it out... all i have are some junk frames as i sold the redone seats already. I would be willing to send them your way for price of shipping + $5 as long as your in no hurry to get them. My new 95 has the other seats in them
