Default major suspension bolt problems

im installing a lift on my XJ and when my dad was trying to unbolt the springs the welded nut on the inside of the frame broke, so now we have a bolt with a nut inside the frame that just spins, so i cut through the bolt on the back side of the spring and got the spring out, now the only way to get the nut out was to cut a hole in the bottom of the section that comes out to the spring.

i proceded to move on to removing the shackels, the one side came out but once again the welded nut inside the frame broke loose, i cut the shackel out, cut the access hole and now its all messed up, and i need to reconstruct it somehow, ill post pictures, plz help this has got me down to the point that i just want to forget about this project

I believe the bracket can be removed where the front of the leaf spring mounts. dunno about at the shackle end though.

I'm afraid there is no easy fix for that. You'll have to tear out whats left and fab up some new spring mounts. Just remember that is a structural member and if the rear is not properly aligned it will dog track.

Ya man you crazy! I would say you have to fab up some new mounts. And alignment is key!

Default Get thee to a machine shop.

I can not quite make out what was done here. But it looks like you could have a machine shop fabricate a rectangular inside mounting plate.

Can you weld a new nut on the back side of the piece you cut out? Then weld it back in with a little additional bracing?
Do you have a welder? Where do you live, maybe someone can help you out. I'm on the west side of Michigan... have welder! Will travel if your near me!

I agree, weld in what you cut out, mock up the bolt through the outside hole and make sure its straight. A good weld will be stronger than the metal. You could also weld some back plates along the cut so the main welds don`t blow through.
