Are you sure you hooked the alternator up correctly?

ABSOLUTELY ,,,,,

It a "one way" thing.

The space is so tight there that it can only go in one way.

For the fusable thing to connect, and for the ground on the fusable thing.

It can only go one way.

Anyway I connected it one by one,,, to make sure.

So , in other words,, YES,, I connected it properly.

Im on duty all this week so I won't have much time to mess with it but I have a 4 day weekend coming up,, so I'm gonna be all over it then for sure.

It's a real PITA to work in the weather too,, i might just have to put up the porta garage I have.

THANKS EVERYONE for your help..

If you think of anything new or a thought crosses your ming,,, let me know.

On the alternator.

1996 ,,,2.5 engine ,,,5 speed

On the back of the alternator,,, the plug kinda thing (fusable link?)
there are 4 connections,,, 2 thick ones on a heavy gauge wire (grounds?) and 2 smaller ones on the connection that goes onto the alt.

There is only 3 wires. Where do these 3 wires lead to?

And the short wire from the fuse box behind the battery. Undo the bolt on the fuse box and a 1 foot long heavy gauge wire with thru connectors comes off. What is it called and where does it connect?

I searched and tried to get wiring diagrams but I keep getting sent to crap answers.
I am calling my salvage buddy to get some parts and need to know what to tell him I need.

Well,,
Here was the resolution for thi issue.

I went to the local all Jeep scrapyard and got an altnernator harness and a used 117 amp altnernator.

After tracing every wire associated with the altnernator I found every place where they were burnt or damaged in any way.

I cut those damaged parts out, spliced ( used pin connectors and shrink tubing) the "new" connectors and wiring in.
Re-installed the used altnernator and ,,,,connected the battery ground.
Then,,, very gingerly,,, I touched the positive side of the battery wiring to the positive battery terminal. NOTHING but a few clicks and whatnot noises. So I connected it.

Hit the key and it roared to life,,, Man the relief I felt was so much.
All gauges worked and everything was good again.
As for the "new" altnernator which started the whole mess,,, I returned it,,got a refvund and went back to the salvage yard.
There I picked up a used 4.0 throttle body and an Air-Raid intake.
