Default Main Seal or Oil Pan?

I replaced the main seal in my '01 at the beginning of the week to fix a slow oil leak. The Jeep dealer diagnosed it and of course wanted an arm and a leg to do the repair, so I did it myself.

Things went smoothly, install went off without a hitch.

The one thing I did notice after I took the pan off was that it was lopsided. It wobbled when face down on the ground, and when I put it up on the block, same thing. I didn't give it much thought, until... 3 days after putting it all back together it started leaking again. Not nearly as badly though. I'm wondering if the pan could be causing this as the main seal is brand new. The oil pan gasket is also new, and I used gasket sealer on the corners (front and back).

Anyone else experience this in the past?

If the pan is bent .. Your leak is obviously from the pan.

It wasn't bent, it just wasn't a completely flush fit. I didn't know if this was commonplace for these oil pans or not and the gasket was enough to prevent leakage, or if the pan needed to be replaced.

replace the pan if it's not flush. It's a pretty obvious problem if it's not flush.

this may be an extreme here .. But is the bottom of the block warped by chance? Chances are slim.

Not from what I could tell being under there. I didn't see any sort of damage to the block. I was attaching the pan with a couple bolts without the gasket, just for the night, and that's when I noticed it wasn't sitting flush. The next day when I took it off I laid it face down on a flat surface and it wobbled slightly. That's why I think it's the pan and not the block.

My local yard tried to screw me on my oil pan. I waited almost 2 hours for them to pull one off for me and the piece of garbage that try tried to sell me for $50 was worse than the one I was going to replace. I ordered one on rockauto for like $65 shipped to my door.

Pick n pull yards are the best imo, because you can see what your getting before it's pulled.

Any who, use the one piece gasket if you didn't already, the 4 piece ones leak 99.99% of the time

Yep, I used the one piece gasket, it went on pretty smoothly. There are a couple Pick n Pull's close by, I'll check them out but as XJlimitedx99 mentioned, RockAuto and Amazon have brand new ones for about $75 shipped.
