I got An 89 xj 4.0 4x4 . So far new radiator all of cooling system is new except for blower.new coil to plugs. Including dis cap And. roter.just put on 3 in rustys lift.i put new power steering in it 3 mounths befor i got it witch is feb 1 2010. Just did oil change/ tune up. I was having starting problems but i ajusted the tps and. It starts up. Idels at 1100 but dropes to 600 when put in gear. Now the only time it gets up to 190deg is off roading. On the free way it stays at 140 . It kind of stuttere every few strokes whej cold.


Now the alternator. It is to low .can i pull my ac condencer And move it up. Or swap them. Help in 6 mounths iv gon througu 3 of them

I've got a similar issue with my temp gauge, but I'm not convinced its more than a gauge failure. Mine is an 87, yours is an 89? Confirm actual running temp before worrying too much, at least thats what I'd do. At least its not overheating.

Yes, you can relocate the alternator. Search, its not a direct swap. You'll find write ups and pics explaining what to do.

Hi and welcome to CF. Do you know what temp thermostat is in there? should be 195 and if not the motor will not run properly...Tj

Im not to shir. I pulled it out and Wiped i it off but no #. I was told my thermistat should be a 190. I also put in a cts. It helped but not compleatly. When i got it i paid $150 for it. (Got it from my brother. Who was 18 at the time and had blowen up 2 cars.) So a macanic told him he needs a new radiator.$345 later (new radiator) the shop calls and said its a blowen head. 4 mounths later i get it. I went to LA worked on it for 3 days new (water pump,new radi. Hoses, new heater valve,) i drove it home. Over the grape vine. Staed at 150 thr whole 5 hour drivd. Got it smoged. So?

O ya. Ive taken it out the last two days lots of mud. No more alternater. Im going to pull it and clean everything up.batery drand new and new dat cabels feb1.and i notised a 2 wires that come togeher in a but splice (both are black and Red) but not nothing comes out the other side. Its under the over flow. May just be some one riged it.

Ive come to the conclusion its wires in my dash. My volt. meeter came bsck on. I also have some leak in my fire wall so hopefully i cwn kill 2 birds with one tear down..

wiring is a nightmare! good luck! you might want to see if your local wrecking yard has an entire harness... more money but less of a pain in the ***...
also if ya get Firefox as a web browser it has spell check built in..... im just sayin... lol
