Default Loud Squeeking Noise

Hi, i recently bought a 99 jeep cherokee. It has the 4.0 and has 116000mi. There was a noise coming from the belt that was constant so i replaced the belt. The noise went away and now i have a even louder noise sometimes. Anyone know what it could be? thanks

did you tighten the belt to the right tension? cause if not you might've worn out one of the pulleys in the system, i accidentally tightened the belt too tight no mine, and it wore out my a/c compressor pulley, it squeeks pretty bad when i start it, and sometimes it wont go away

Is it a squeak . . .or more like a whistle? . . .A couple guys on another site and I, have been fighting with a "whistle" for a while . . .One dude, was pretty certain it was his pulley's etc . . .I was thinkin the same thing . . .
Well . . .I was wrong . .Cracked intake manifold. Bad scene . . .lol

It you are getting the squeel from around the belt it is most likely one of the tensioners or pulley's that is going. If you are getting a noise when you are turning and it isn't a squeel add power steering fluid, my 04 grnd makes a ton of noise when turning even with a full reservoir.

I have a similar thread I started a while back and actually posted on today. The problem is with a Loud whistling noise. Thread is titled, click here: Whistling cherokee. WHAT!

Forgot to note that its highly possible its what everyone else is telling you other then what my problem is/was.

Probably your belt tensioner. They tend to get stuck in on position over time and fail to keep the belt tight even if the belt is brand new. Gotta replace the spring in it to fix your squeal.

Idler pulley may need replacing.
Idler is pulley between the A/C compressor and valve cover.
Common problem.

Easy repair.
Remove belt.
Unscrew idler mounting pulley
Reverse procedure with new idler
