loud sound going down the interstate
I have a 1999 jeep cherokee sport with a 3in lift and 31x10.5 all terrains. Going down the interstate after about 65 its really loud. Is this normal for xj's?

you're going to have to be a bit more specific lol....
describe the sound and where you think it's coming from.
Does it vary with speed? Does it go away if you step on the brakes or let off the gas? Is it wind noise?

Its just loud roaring noise, its similar to the sound of running mud terrains just a little bit louder. It sounds like its coming from the engine but im not sure.

My 99 does pretty much the same thing not sure what it is but It occurs at 35 and 55 mph only. It is mostly vibrations. I have also similar noise I believe is caused by my lockers at high way speed or its my transfer case. Does yours have a locker? have you checked your dif fluid and transfer case fluid at all?

Yea i need to check those. I replaced my left front one 2 years ago because it was roaring so thats what i figured it was originally but im not sure, im saving up money to go to my local 4x4 shop to have it looked at haha

Large aggressive tires are noisy at highway speeds, lifts extend universal joint angles and vibrations, worn motor and transmission mounts conduct engine vibrations, and the larger tires cause the engine to work a bit harder, causing more exhaust noise, even if it is at lower rpm. I had a problem with sticking front calipers dragging the brakes. I was surprised how much quieter the Cherokee was once I fixed this. Wheel bearings will let out quite a roar, but it usually changes note as you turn right or left.
