I just got a 87 Laredo xj low miles 152,000. 4.0. it needed a fuel pump so i bought it, first pump i put in was an airtex from autozone and was extremely loud. Then i traded it for another and lasted 10miles. put another in and gets louder as it gets drove. Extremely loud. it worries me on the trail and would like to fix the problem before i move on with upgrades, what can it be??

The problem could very well be your Airtex pump.
I install lots of aftermarket products and IMHO, Airtex are bottom of the barrel. I stay away from this brand like the plague.
I have had more dead on arrival and early mortality parts from this mfg. than any other. They are also very loud.
Get a different brand of pump. I specifically seek out BOSCH fuel pumps and assemblies. They are the best in the business.

I understand that airtex is no good had to get it because of the assembly. would it work if i got the bosch and used the airtex assembly?? also i believe i should replace the gromets and valves at the top of the tank.

Damnit! I HAD to get airtex too since they were the only ones available with the entire assembly. I know that Autozone parts suck and I will definitely avoid them like the plague from now on. I think someone already asked this but I would really like to know if I can get the Bosch setup and use the airtex parts that the bosch one doesn't have? Is there ANY other brand or place I can get a fuel pump with the entire assembly? Anyone?!
