new ignitions are super cheap at auto part stores and are fairly simple to put in if you have a steering wheel puller

Could always do what my father in law has done and just remove the key cylinder and the locking mechanism.

Sometimes, on some cars, a locksmith can remove like a door lock and read numbers on it to make a new key. I do realize there are two keys. Anyway I might look into the number's route with the dealer and a locksmith before changing all, 6? locks. (have your Vin# handy) Bummer Btw. Also a locksmith can make a key if you take the lock(s) in. The hatch lock is supper easy to remove, but a key made to work on that may or may not work for the doors. On one old Celica the tumblers or whatever on the trunk lock where not as fine as the ones in the doors.

you don't have an extra key somewhere. If not , the question is why not. Does the previous owner possibly have you he/she forgot to give to you.? good luck. Question, If you have more than one vehicle, have you made extra vehicle keys for them. Yos should have at least 4 keys to every vehicle you own.

cpttuna, it's been 7 years on this. I'm betting he got it all sorted out.

I.m not sure how far back you can do this, but either a locksmith or a dealer can obtain the key code for you and you can have a key cut by code. More expensive than cutting a key normally, but better than copying a worn key. Again, I'm not sure how far back in time you can do this.

$15 mail order last time I checked. Even borrowing/renting a puller you're still cheaper than what a locksmith would charge. Last time I did one, I didn't use a puller.

This happened to me in a sort of different way. The electronic keys for my 05 WK, one of them failed. In order to create copies you need two functioning keys. After spending hundreds to get new keys and have them programmed at the dealer I went on ebay and bought several key blanks and programmed them myself....at a fraction, and I do mean FRACTION of the cost at the dealer. I had them cut at a locksmith so now I have four back up keys to my two that the dealer made. I periodically pull them out and check them with my WK. I also had several keys made for my XJ.
