Default I need transmission help....

so I recently purchased a 96 Jeep xj sport the 2 door one. It’s been lifted has a bunch of nice little add on stuff. That’s all great but after buying I find out that during the summer the transmission gets a little “funny”. So my initial thought is drop a transmission cooler in it call it a day. While driving today twice after first gear moves the second it’s gets into a real high RPM and takes a lot longer to shift. I wasn’t laying on the gas by any means. Any ideas on what this could mean? Also I haven’t installed the trans cooler yet because I want to kind of diagnose the issue before dumping anymore money into something that might just be dead.

I’m honestly unsure what you mean by TV cable and the fluid is okay, at a safe level but in my opinion more burnt then I’d like

On the throttle body you will have possibly 3 cables. One is your throttle, one is the cruise control cable if equipped and one is the TV cable.

Change you fluid if it is degraded. Full credit to blueridgemark.

I’m not sure if this is like a old wife’s tale or not, but I was always told once the fluid is burned you never change it you only add more when your low. Is that a real thing? Or is that something I should throw out and just flush it?

the easy way is to change out fluid ~4lites per time, each time will dilute the old fluid ~50%

not ever changing trans fluid is plain ridculous

if it is hot where you are, an external air-cooler is needed or trans temp will exceed recommended

the instructions for adjusting the throttle cable is on this forum, to be found via search function

if I read your initial problem right, when it revs high, try back right off the throttle and see if it upshifts
