Loss of power/acceleration

Loss of power/acceleration
Hey guys, so to try to get all the details this might be long. First of my '94 XJ sport has lost A LOT of power, however, ONLY in 3 and Drive. Before it happened I did a burnout, worked fine. That night I took the dash off. The next day I moved it out of the garage, only using reverse, worked fine. Then later I went to go to my friends house, started it up, started normal, seemed normal until I put it in drive. Messed with it for awhile, it works perfectly fine in "1-2" and reverse. Revs up fine in park/neutral. It literally is like pulling a train car behind this thing, my grandma can accelerate faster, walking. The jeep has 280,000 miles, no carpet, cold air intake, 31 inch tires, new thermos stat, and thermos stat sensor. I added a little bit of oil before I found out that it messed up. Sometimes it will idle at 80 psi(oil), normally will idle a little under 1000 rpm. The exhaust is a cherry bomb right behind the exhaust. No clue on any engine or tranny rebuilds. No recent tune ups, I have been planning on doing an oil change. Also, keep in mind I'm 16 so I'm limited on money, this is my first car and if its not too expensive I want to fix it. I'm sure I'm missing info. If anyone could reply to this post I would be very grateful to any help! I've searched this and heard anything from clogged cats, to fuel pumps. Thanks, Mike

There is a whole lot that could be wrong...
Check your transmission fluid.
See if the wheels spin freely or if your brakes are stuck from the brakestands.
Or just drive it around in 1st and 2nd gear!

I know you're 16 and all. I've been there. But don't drive like an idiot and stop doing burnouts. I've gotten a reckless driving ticket screeching my tires. Don't make yourself learn the hard way

You have to remember, You are driving a Jeep XJ and not a sports car. They are not made to be driven like one.
I have noticed lately that there have been several post with people having trans problems and it is mostly after they have been driving there Jeep like it was a race car.

Haha, yeah I know this jeep isn't a race car. But after driving a 84 Mustang with a 351 it was the normal thing to do, sometimes not even on purpose. I did find my problem, I took the lower dash piece off to get to wiring and the ecu or ecm whatever its called was disconnected. Put it back on and works fine. Thanks for the responses!
