so i checked the IAC and that wasnt it. tried cranking it and giving it a little gas again and it started to crank but then stopped. had the hood popped and it started smoking from the airbox. Im thinking its the CPS. talked to a mopar mechanic friend and he thinks the same.

any input?

A bad CPS would not cause smoke to come out of your airbox.

Almost sounds like a backfire through the intake manifold. Check the cps and get back to us.

Good for you. Sounded like it was flooding to me. If it happens again, hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor when you try to start it. If it's flooded, that should turn it right over.

check your fuel pressure regulator on your fuel rail. it might be bad and its just lettin full fuel pressure get through. or possibly o2 sensors? caused my 94 4.0 ho to flood cause with the bad o2 it got stuck on cold idle circuit and would blow smoke out everywhere.

yeah check your o2. since yours looks to be newer than 96 go to a autozone or oreilly or something they can hookup a code reader and tell you whats breaking or broken.

TPS aint too hard to replace, and that should fix your misfire's hence your stalling problem. Just replace it and away you go! Good luck

Having a code reader around is priceless.

Great info, really fast.

Don't forget to clear your codes after you view them. That way, you'll know any codes you are seeing are NEW ones.

Good Luck, and good job diagnosing your problem!

Sounds like you may be replacing your TPS... That shouldn't be a tough job, but just to eliminate other problems, you may wish to reset your computer first. Just disconnect the battery for a few minutes, and then reconnect. That should reset the computer, and give you a good starting point.

I think I read above that you were worried about clogged injectors, too.. I've used SeaFoam for a while now, and have had *great* results. I know there are mixed opinions on the stuff, but I'm 44 years old, and can honestly say that product is the ONLY injector cleaner I've ever had work as advertised.

I'd also make sure to check the condition of your spark plugs after as you are resolving this issue. After your ignition problems, they'll probably want a good cleaning.

Good luck, and keep everyone posted...
