I have a 2001 cherokee sport 4.0 auto with 116500 miles. Under the hood is stock. The problem I have is that the jeep stalls from time to time. If the cherokee does not stall for a few days I get a check engine light for P0442. The jeep will stall within a couple of days and the OBD code disappears. It does not get stored in the memory of the PCM. The dealer says that the "pcm is clearing codes caused by internal failure". I took the jeep to a mechanic friend who owns a shop and he saw the check engine light on in his parking lot but when he drove the jeep into his shop it stalled on him and he didn't get any codes from the PCM because there were none, he checked all the fuses but found none that were out. The reason I took the jeep to the dealer was to find out why it stalls and they told me there is internal failure in the PCM and it needs to be replaced. My mechanic friend is puzzled by the code disappearing and is also leaning toward PCM failure. Anyone have any ideas on why the codes disappear when the jeep stalls?
