Mk1 4.0L H.O Limited SE 1995 65000 miles
I have been losing coolant from the header take over the last week approx 1/2 pint per journey. I inspected the pipes and radiator nothing.
I then checked the weep hole on the water pump nothing dry.
Whilst cleaning the mud off on Friday and cleaning inside I found water under both front footwell rubber mats, on inspection the fluid in the LH foot well (passenger RH drive) was green coolant.
The carpet was soaked but trying to trace the leak I could find no evidence of coolant coming from above either down the bulkhead or from the heater unit.
In the 2 years we have had the XJ we have never needed to use the heat setting, after -5 degrees Celsius recently and frost we needed to. After doing this just over a week ago the coolant turned brown instead of green and this loss started.

Question how do I check the heater matrix and if faulty I have been informed by the local Jeep dealer it will cost £1000 ($1560) this is due to the A/C and the whole dash needing to be removed is this correct?

What are your thoughts guys as really don't want a £1000 bill!
