Default Looking to buy my first Cherokee.

Hi, so I have been shopping around my area (Seattle WA) for a few months looking for a good deal on a Cherokee and well... I have a few questions. Mainly I'd like to know if 200k miles on a Cherokee is too many. I want to beable to get many years as a daily drive out of it, and I drive quite a bit 20k-25k miles a year.

I found this

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/2114934092.html

I was going to go take a look at it tomorrow, just need to know if I shouldn't even bother.

Thanks for you help.
Nick

I wouldn't say it not worth your time, if it isn't a long drive, then by all mean go look at it. However, from the pics, the interior is kind of clean but not super, which can take away from the value. The I6 is know to last 200K+, with reports over 300K, however for a DD that will rack up 20K a year, I would say that is way to high. The exterior may look good in the picture, but it doesn't always in person.

When I bought my XJ it looked fantastic in the pics but wasn't quite the same in person. I got a 2000 XJ that had only a few small problems and 109K miles for that price.

All in all, I think it might not be a waste if you only live a couple miles away, but it would seem best to keep looking.

Hope this helps! And good luck on the hunt.

The place is only about 5 miles away, so figured I'd take a look.
When looking at a vehicle with this many miles on it what all should I really be looking for, besides rust?

I think it looks solid, and the price isn't bad. My buddys had a 95 with 405 k and it ran like a champ, I have 200k on mine. These motors can really take a hit. It looks worth your while

I just bought my 98 Cherokee classic 2 days ago. Great shape, no rust and runs perfect for $3500. You should be able to find a better deal I think. Granted we're on opposite sides of the country.

All of them I'm finding around Seattle that have 100k-150k are around 6000, and that's a little too much for me right now.

If It's all you can afford and need a car I would say as long as things check out, go for it. I would say, work them down on the price, that is still too much. Have you tried any cities near Seattle? I found mine on Autotrader, if you haven't looked there I would strongly recommend it.

WOW $4000 are you serious ? 200,000 miles that`s = 321868.8 kilometers
holy **** run away. Used car dealers know how to hide all kinds of problems and will lie throught there teeth and scam you at every turn ....

I live in Vancouver B.C and jeeps are in high demand out here I bought my 96 @ 224,000 km and all it needed was oil pan gasket, rearmain seal I think but to lateand the rocker cover gasket I paid $2700. PRIVATE SALE

The average life span of the 4.0 if well taken care of is 480,000 km before it needs a rebuild.

I shopped a few used car dealers before I bought my jeep and belive me they where all WELL OVER PRICED by at least $1000.

Just hang in and don`t panic, Go for a private sale and save ur money find one that has been owned by a lady they pop up once in while, Mine was bought brand new by a 60 + lady.

Yeah I'd say if you go see it and you're not happy then walk away, there are better deals than that. But if you need it and the dealer will take 800 less (or at least something less) than go for it it'll last. I think if you wait longer you'll find a better deal though.
The only pros (I think) of this Jeep is it has full time 4wheel drive and very clean engine bay...

I'd be careful.. I saw a lot of "waves" in the RH rear body by that missing fender flare, could be some moderate to major body damage. Also, $3995 US is a little steep.

As far as mileage, My '92 has 316K+ and is still running great, just leaks oil...

Took a harder look at those pictures...

A fender missing, the rear bumper has several dents, if you look closely you can see a large number of dings and scratches in the paint, and the head unit to the stereo is missing. If you look closely at the exhaust tip you can see that it has some rust, which could be an indicator for some serious rust underneath.

Go look at it, if it checks out mechanically and the rust underneath is minimal, then I would say it's over priced around $1000-1200

As a reference the 98 I bought for 3500 only has 78k on the clock.
