How hard would it be to install this on my own....
Is it worth the money quadratec wants?

Pretty easy to install, but shop around for a better price. There are a lot of lockers that work just like the Lockrite, they just have a different name.

ya but lockrite is the name everyone knows cause they're the best. and quadratec is expensive and shipping is ridiculous. you can find the same locker for cheaper just look....try ebay. and they are way easy to install, just pull your spider gears and install the lockrite carrier.

i installed lock-rites in both my rear 44 and my front 30.
the rear was easier, cause the front you have to pull the ring gear to get the cross pin out.
anyways, it's all in the install. take your time and do it right. i used lots of bearing grease to hold my springs and pins for install. just make sure you install the springs correctly. i had to remove them a couple of times before i installed it to the carrier. the included instructions are crap at best.
it's been in there for about 5 years now, and works just like it did the day i put it in.
i did the front a couple years ago. it works great, but the axle doesn't like it in there.

what happens? does it all just lock up solid and stop the wheels?
odd that it would happen with a detroit. they're the kleenex name in lockers.

The jeep fishtailed jerkingly and made it hard to control and then let off the gas and the locker unlocks. so I heard these style lockers were bad for the highway and tight turning.
