Lock front or back first?
Just wondering if I only have enough money to buy one of the lockers for now which one should I get front or rear? I am leaning heavy towards the aussie lockers. I have a dana 30 and a chrysler 8.25 in my '99 XJ. 3.55 gears. I do plan on locking both.

the front is cheaper....... thanks for all the input, i might just save up and get both lockers at once. Depends on what extra work I can pick up in the next week or 2.

I locked the front cause i rather have the front have the most traction so it can pull and steer me, rather than the rear just pushing forward. Many time before my locker i found my self stuck in ruts and not having enough traction in the front to steer me out of the ruts

It really depends.
What kind of wheeling do you like to do?
If you do lots of rocks i Highly suggest the front locker would be best first because it grabs the rock first and pulls you up and over if you will.

Well i am pretty new to the 4wd stuff, but i am just looking at doing some trail riding etc. try to stay out of the mud, maybe climb some hills, rocks etc. Just have fun. Like I stated before I am planning on locking both, but from what a few of you have said locking the front sounds like what I should do first.
Dang it, I got the aussie site and it says the locker for the front, is currently on backorder!

id say get the back locker cause if your going up something, most the weight is on the rear tires. your idea to just save up and buy both is the route i took.

I agree with Royal. Front first. Think of it this way. You're in mud, you have a front locker. That means both fronts are pulling. If you have an open diff in the front and a locked rear, only one front is pulling while the other wheel is dead and then the locked rear is trying to push that dead wheel. Same applies to snow. That is my only real reason to say front.
