My front check pin liberated itself. Trying to replace it but am not able to pull the little arm far enough out of the door to do so. Am I missing something dumb here? Not sure if I just need more force or if there's something it could be hung up on. Tricks? trying to avoid ripping door apart if unnecessary (disclaimer: NOT lazy, just a little chilly
Thanks for any info

If you close the door to a point where you can drop a pin punch into the check arm/bracket hole, then open the door the arm will extend & should stay put. You can jamb a bolt&nut in there temporarily but it will make a very annoying "pop" sound.

Morris4X4 has the check arm brackets, but I suggest you get an OEM pin and not an aftermarket ChiCom pin. As usual, the Chinese have a hard time reverse engineering stuff...as simple as a pin.

The "little arm" that you are trying to pull out has notches that are pinched between two rubber rollers that are tensioned by fairly beefy little springs. They are thus very hard to just move by hand. Try using pliers as a lever with a screwdriver shank as a fulcrum and pull it that way. Don't be surprized if it's broken, with that being the reason that it's disconnected and immoveable in the first place.

pull the arm out. takes a little bit of strength. have a pair of vise grips ready to put on it up against the door so it will not go back in. i took a bolt with a locking nut. lined it all up. put the bolt up thru the bottom. put the nut on the top and thread it in. its kinda tight because of the bolt heads holding the bracket to the body. have had it like that for over 3 years, works fine. keep it simple.

Yep, can be tough to pull back out once it's into the door. I took a length of heavy wire and threaded it thru the arm and the eyelet where it's supposed to attach to. Close the door as much as possible and take up all the slack in the wire. Then open the door as far as possible to start pulling the arm out. Repeat the process of closing the door to take up even more slack until you got it our far enough or all the way out. Then, I clamped a vise grip onto the arm as close to the door as possible to keep it from going back in while I was working. With the arm fully extended and held in place by the vice grip you can re-pin it with little trouble. Might take two people for best results but that's how I did mine. Slight PITA.
