The blower motor continues to stay on after I cut the ignition off. Maybe one out of ten times it will turn off with the engine. Concurrently, if I crank it when it's cold, it will fire and die immediately. Sometimes once and sometimes I'll have to fire it two or three times. I've already switched out the relay for the blower and unless it is also bad it had no effect. I still have all fan speeds so I don't think it's the resistor. Any insight on what to check next? Do I need to pull the blower?

Edit - I love the junior member thing I've been lurking for years

I think the problem may be related to the ignition switch. If you have a radio or 12V USB adapter, does that also work when the car is off and the blower motor is on? What year Xj do you have?

It's an 01. I'm willing to believe the ignition switch may be malfunctioning, a previous owner broke it to allow the key to be removed while running.

What are the positions on your key switch? Mine is Accessories--Lock--Off--On/Run--Start. Go through all the positions slowly, and try to see if the blower motor turns off for one or more of them.

Well. I guess we'll have to put a pin in this one and pick up back up again maybe as soon as tomorrow. I had the fuse out to not kill my battery overnight and when I replaced it to test the ignition as you asked, everything is operating normally.
