Today I have changed my rear weatherstrip.... I have pushed her in real good and firm.... Now my liftgate will close only if slammed real bad! Is It normal? Will It get the shape or should I heat It somehow?
while I'm here... I still didn't see an xj with One of those Bottom part of the liftgate plastic trim that isn't broken ... The one with the stud in the middle.... Any metal alternative around by any chance?
Thanks a lot

Weatherstrip can do that. OEM and aftermarket. More so with aftermarket in my experience as some were a tad thicker than OEM. Leave it closed and the weatherstrip should relax after a while, and you shouldnt need to slam it once it does. What brand?

Mine does the same thing. You can alter the latch on the body slightly to pull it out a tad. I also find that it shuts perfectly fine if a door or window is open.

The new seal will take a set and conform to the frame with time and heat. This time of year it may take a bit longer than it would in the summer. Different brands of seals are softer or harder but in general you just have to give it time to conform.

You could try to remove the rubber boots on both sides of the door and tighten the torx bolts to recess them into the body more so when the boot things are replaced they sit more flush allowing the door to close easier

Im replacing my Liftgate Weatherstrip also, but I also need the cover for the wiring harness from the liftgate. Where the wire go into the body on the upper left side.
What is it called and where can I find it.

You might luck out an find an 00-01 wreck in the yard you can steal one from, but otherwise I think they will crumble if you tried to remove it. Some people who get stuff from the yards are so inconsiderate that they will cut a door harness to get the rubber boot off. Leave something for the next guy, please!
