+1 on new struts. I got some cheap on a local forum because a guy thought they were for a GC and couldnt use them. I have the complete opposite problem of the hatch falling on my head now, it comes up so fast that if you arent paying attention, it will knock you in the jaw... and im not joking about that either lol.
they were monroe lift struts, i cant recall what model of them, but the piston is black which i thought was cool :-p

me too. mine are just cheep ones but watch out when the gate opens its a head ache. and pulling it down takes some muscle.

just replaced mine with the monroe struts too, its weird getting use to the liftgate hitting you in the face vs falling on you. well worth the 55 bucks form AZ.
i used the axe i kept up top and put it sharp-end down on the taillight, with the handle up on the gate. I didn't have the rear interior piece in, so it worked out pretty well. I only put stuff in the trunk when i went camping, so the axe was out anyways!
