My 92 XJ had lifter tick, but also made a ton of noise (suspension, body creak, blah, blah, and blah) and so I couldn't hear it all the time. I could only hear it at low speed or on start up.
My new 96 XJ is exceptionally quiet and I can hear the lifter tick until it's been running for a few minutes. Is that normal? And will sea foam help that? Just had the oil changed at 135k and went to a semi-synthetic blend. PO used regular oil. I don't notice any lack of power, no hesitation, no smoke and it burns very little oil, so I'm assuming it's not a piston skirt issue.

Valvoline oil filter. Wife says she can still hear the tick after it warms up sometimes. It's hard for me to hear with the wind noise.

Don't know the quality of Valvoline filters. Wix is the filter of choice.
If you suspect lifter tick when started cold, do this:
Shut it off. Wait 10 seconds and restart. Noise gone?

I have lifter tick due to a worn cam bearing. No special oil filter can fix it for me...
Pop the valve cover off and look at your lifters. Could be anything from a loose bolt on a rocker arm to apparently your oil filter....

And you're commenting on oil filters?
Your method to determine this?
You can see lifters with a valve cover off?
Poor advice ^^^^ here.
