Default Lifter tick after oil change. Rotella?

So I think I was running 10w-30 Mobile1 as of late?(don’t remember)... but I did an oil change last week and put in pennzoil 10-40 with a wix filter. 5 days later I’m heading to work and hear a loud tapping with rpms. Checked for exhaust leak, and the flex plate bolts, those are fine. So I figured it’s lifter.. noise is coming from the top of the motor...
I did a bunch of research on here, bob the oil guy page, etc.... bunch of people said try rotella 15w40, the other side said try rotella t6... so I decided to try the T6 today to try & solve the lifter noise. I used a mobile1 filter this time. Drove for 20 minutes and came home and the tick is still there. Does it take a while for it to do its thing? Should I have gone 15w-40? Should I just go fix the lifters (I don’t really want to)? Oil pressure is right at 40-45 when driving. 25 when super hot and idling

any insight is greatly appreciated.

sounds like you have a collapsed lifter. they are hydrolic, and you may have one that won't pump up.
you can take the valve cover off, and run it to hear what lifter, or with the engine shut off, you should be able to find a loose rocker, that is probably the one with the collapsed lifter.

if it won't pump up, you will have to swap it out. it's not an easy job with the 4.0L, you have to remove the head, which means possibly removing the intake/exhaust manifold. those are always scary as the bolts/studs may not want to come out, and a good chance of snapping one off. yours may come right off, tho.

So, when you start it up first thing, and it ticks, it likely will be misfiring also. Is that happening?

The tick is coming from the front. I’ll have to check it without the cover on.

as for the misfire comment, I installed brand new plugs and wires 2 days ago to see if that was the issue. gapped at .035 It doesn’t feel like a misfire. No power loss or shake

Consider running T6 Synthetic 15W-40. At our Wal-Mart it's available for $19.95/gallon. Sounds like you used a different Rotella than T6. I put T4 in one of my motorcycles a few years back and didn't get around the block before it got very noisy. The T6 is much better.

I did use T6. T6 is 5w-40. Blue bottle. The t4 is the 15w-40 I think

Have you looked down into the valve cover to see if there is a sludge build up?

If it’s all sludgy that should explain it right? Possibly a clogged rod? If yes.. what should I do? ATF for a little?

A quart of Marvel Mystery Oil. Monitor the sludge decreasing.

Remove the valve cover and see if you can isolate the issue.

Roger. Hopefully it’s nothing crazy... any chance that the rotella will loosen things and minimize the tick since it has more detergent?

Yes. Possible. But engine parts clanking together is not good. Pull the valve cover.

Sounds good. I’ve heard these Motors can handle abuse and a lot 4.0 owners that I’ve talked to here in the valley just tell me to keep running it with the noise. I’m too paranoid about these kinds of things. Should I be ultra concerned like I am? Or am I being too nervous lol. It literally doesn’t skip a beat and my pressure is great

You have a stethoscope now, right?

You must pinpoint where the noise is loudest. Just driving it makes me nervous also.
